Sent Out – Christ & Missions.
Bible Text: Luke 10:1-16 | Preacher: G.F.
God is passionate about His glory. He desires to be glorified throughout the earth. Missions is the means of this ‘glory’ being spread. Missions is the heartbeat of God, and must be at the heartbeat of the church as well. This passage defines who we are, and explains clearly our duty. If we have professed faith in Jesus Christ, then we are disciple-making disciples, zealous for the glory of God amongst all nations. John Piper famously said in his book ‘Let the Nations be Glad – The Supremacy of God in Missions’;
“Missions exists because worship doesn’t. Worship is ultimate, not missions, because God is ultimate, not man. When this age is over, and the countless millions of the redeemed fall on their faces before the throne of God, missions will be no more.”
When Jesus calls us to himself in salvation, he also sends us out to share this good news with others. Jesus himself instructs us in this passage to not only be praying for the salvation of the lost but also pray that they will join us in labouring for a greater harvest. Our Saviour warns us not to be surprised that others will oppose this message of hope. We must trust God to provide for all our needs as we lovingly share the good news of the gospel with others. And finally, we must announce the danger of rejecting the gospel to all. Practical instructions for an obedient life of service to our King.
