The Majestic, Miraculous, Mysterious, Condescension and Conception of Lord Jesus Christ

Preacher: Nilesh Hiwale
Passage: Philippians 2:5-8, Luke 1:26-38, 1 Timothy 1:15

Bible Text: Philippians 2:5-8, Luke 1:26-38, 1 Timothy 1:15 | Preacher: Nilesh Hiwale

Cross Reference: John 1:14, 18:37; 1 Timothy 1:15

The Nature of His Condescension (Part 1)

A. The Pre-incarnate Christ occupies the highest place and prominence

B. Christ did not insist on his rights

C. Christ made himself nothing

1. Changes that happened (John 6:51, 2 Cor 8:9, John 17:5)

2. Changes that did not happen (His divine nature did not change)

        2. The Glorious Purpose of His Condescension

A. To Save Sinners by His Life and Death (Hebrew 2:9)

B. To share with the sinner his life (John 10:10, Gal 2:20)

C. To Sympathize with sinner (Hebrew 2:17)

D. To Show sinner godliness (1 Tim 3:16)

E. To Show Sinner their Perfected Humanity (Philippians 3:20,21; 2 Cor 3:18)

F. To Show Sinners God (John 1:18)

       The Conception (Part 2)

This was the “door” of his entrance into the world. It was not his beginning or origin, it was however the method of his new manner of existence by which God became man.

1. The Nature of his conception – Miraculous and Mysterious…Luke 1:34 “How Can this be since I am a virgin?”

A. Supernatural Begetting -Luke 1:35;42

B. Supernatural Person -Luke 1:35

C. Supernatural Preservation “Holy Offspring” -Luke 1:35

Eternal son of God became the earthly son of Mary, where Adam had a beginning but no birth, the second Adam had a birth but no beginning.

        2. The Support of His Conception

A. Some objections answered

B. Some Excellent Reasons to believe

1. The Psychological Reason- The only virginal conception can explain Mary’s willingness to be included in the company of those who worshiped Jesus -Acts 1:14

2. The Theological Reason- Gives support to the sinlessness of Jesus.

3. Apologetical Reason – If not true then Jesus fails to be saviour

The Significance of His Conception – Salvation must ultimately come from the Lord.

It is a sign of God’s judgment on human nature.

It is a sign that Jesus is a new beginning.

He is the Reason for our Union with God.

Application.

Seek him… Speak of him….. Sing of him. Luke 2:15-20

Daily Verse

When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour. — Psalm 8:3-5 (KJV)
