The Ultimate Question – Who is Jesus?
Bible Text: Luke 2:10-11 | Preacher: G.F.
The question you must answer and respond to correctly is, “Who is Jesus Christ?”
Are the accounts about Jesus and His claims true or false?
Is there adequate evidence to believe these accounts? Especially, is there valid historical evidence that Jesus arose bodily from the dead? The apostle Paul did not hesitate to hang the entire Christian faith on the answer to that one question. 1 Corinthians 15:17 “and if Christ hath not been raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins”.
D.A. Carson said “Faiths validation depends on Faiths object”. Faith has to be based on truth. Bible does not say just believe, believe, believe…as long as you are sincere. Paul says “If you believe in something (resurrection), not true, you are of all men most miserable/pitiable, believe nonsense.
Truth matters. The content of our faith is crucial. Sincerity is not sufficient. Peter said “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”Acts 4:12. Jesus himself said “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14:6. The scriptures say Romans 3:4 “let God be true, but every man a liar..”. So if the angels are correct and Jesus is indeed the Saviour, Christ the Lord, the only way to heaven, then all other religions are a lie. So the question “who is Jesus Christ?”, does matter. Not who is Jesus Christ to you, but who is Jesus? If Jesus is true and every other religions are lies then the answer to this question, “Who is Jesus?” will not only determine where you will spend eternity, but also will determine how you think and live your life.
Satan will always tempt you with doubt. He does not care what you believe, as long as you believe a lie. But if you come back to the correct answer to the question, “Who is Jesus Christ?” it will be the foundation to stand on as you work through your doubts and questions.
Thus it is not surprising that the answer to this question is the major focus of each of the gospel narratives. John, for example, plainly states that he wrote his gospel (20:31), “so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name.” Arguably, the identity of Jesus is the focus of the entire Bible. I want to examine this question, “Who is Jesus Christ?” in the context of the words of the angel to the shepherds. Let us examine the scriptures for the answer.
The focus of this message is based on the identity of Jesus’ as the angel proclaimed it to the shepherds on the night of Jesus’ birth (Luke 2:10-11), “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”
